If you have thick, curly hair like mine and live in a city where it rains all the time — hello, Paris — you know the struggle is real.
Frizz, humidity, long drying time, curls that refuse to behave… It all comes down to one thing: using the right hair styling tools for your hair type.
For years, I used a basic Babyliss hairdryer and honestly thought a hairdryer was just a hairdryer. I did not really understand the hype around professional hair tools or why people were suddenly investing in high-performance dryers.

That was before I tried the GHD Helios Professional Hair Dryer. The next day, my old hairdryer was officially retired.
So, what makes the GHD Helios worth the hype? It feels like having a professional salon dryer in your own bathroom.
It is lightweight, powerful, and designed with variable power and temperature settings, including a cool shot button to help set the hair after styling.
For thick, strong hair like mine — the kind that usually takes forever to dry — this makes a real difference. It dries my hair faster, helps create a smoother finish, and does it without being unbearably loud.
For anyone dealing with thick hair, curly hair, frizz or humidity, a powerful hairdryer is not a luxury. It is step one.

My other favorite hair tool — and honestly, one I cannot live without — is the L’Oréal Professionnel Steampod. If you have curly, coarse, or difficult-to-straighten hair, this is the kind of tool that can completely change your routine.
Before investing in the Steampod, I used a classic straightener and had to set it to 220°C just to get my hair properly straight. Even then, I had to go over the same section several times, which is obviously not ideal if you are trying to avoid heat damage.
With the Steampod, the process is much easier. I usually set it to 170°C and only need one or two passes to get my hair perfectly straight. The result is smooth, sleek and polished, but without that dry, over-ironed look.
The difference comes from its steam technology. The Steampod uses a continuous flow of high-pressure steam from an integrated water tank, helping to straighten the hair more gently while leaving it soft and shiny. For thick curly hair, it is one of the best straighteners I have tried.

The third hair styling tool I love is the T3 Twirl Trio Interchangeable Curling Iron. This was another amazing discovery for me, especially because it offers different styling options in a single tool.
The set comes with three interchangeable clip barrels and features a ceramic surface with five adjustable heat settings, from 260°F to 410°F. I usually reach for the 1.25-inch clip barrel when I want loose, effortless beachy waves — the kind of waves that look soft, relaxed, and not too “done.”
For a more glamorous finish, you can use the reverse tapered barrel to create cascading waves. And if you prefer a more tousled, textured look, the 0.75-inch tapered barrel is perfect.
What I love most is that the curls set quickly and actually last. My little tip: curl your hair on second-day hair rather than freshly washed hair. The texture helps the curls hold better and gives a more natural, lived-in finish.

Of course, we cannot talk about the best hair styling tools for thick, curly, and frizz-prone hair without talking about heat protection.
If you blow-dry, straighten, or curl your hair regularly, a good heat protectant is non-negotiable — especially if your hair is naturally dry like mine.
My top three are Redken One United Multi-Benefit Leave-In Conditioner, Redken Acidic Bonding Concentrate Leave-In Treatment, and CHI 44 Iron Guard Thermal Protection Spray.
When you have thick, curly, and frizz-prone hair, the right tools make all the difference. The GHD Helios helps dry the hair faster and smoother, the L’Oréal Professionnel Steampod makes straightening easier and less damaging, and the T3 Twirl Trio creates long-lasting waves without needing a million different curling irons.
Good hair tools will not magically change your hair type — and honestly, they should not. But they can help you work with your texture instead of fighting it every single morning.
For me, these three tools are worth the investment because they save time, reduce styling frustration, and make thick curly hair much easier to manage. And when Paris humidity is out there plotting against us, that is not a small thing.
